I DON’T THINK YOU READY FOR THIS

(Source: andiecast)

You've probably heard this questions before but I'm curious as to what you do to keep your hair healthy while still dying it so often. Also, is there any tips/tricks you've learned in keeping colors lasting longer? Thanks in advance !

Surprisingly I don’t think anyone’s asked me this before (on tumblr anyway). I’ll just start by saying that my hair is really not healthy at all, it’s dry, it has broken off in places before and it takes a while for it to grow because the ends are pretty damaged. I’m okay with this because to me having coloured hair is worth it, but it is something you need to think about before you bleach your hair.

Okay, so to keep it healthy-ish I try to wash it as little as a possible which I know sounds gross but it really does help. I hardly ever wash my hair more than every third day and I’ve gone up to 6 days with out washing it (I use a shower cap when I shower so my hair doesn’t get wet, ok? I shower the same amount as everyone else. And my sister has a friend who hasn’t washed her hair in literally months so…I’m not a freak, I swear.) And dry shampoo helps if you want to do this. Another thing that really helps is deep conditioning masks. When I want to do a mask I put either regular conditioner or a mask in my hair when it’s damp, put my shower cap on and leave it for 2 to 3 hours. I’ve even left it in over night before. Also, try to stay away from heat as much as possible. I try not to blow dry or straighten my hair, occasionally I’ll put a few curls in if I feel like getting fancy but that’s it. And lastly, whenever my hair dries after I’ve washed it I try to put in a leave in conditioner type situation.

I don’t have many tips for getting colours to last longer because for some reason colour likes to cling to my hair like a mofo so it stays pretty well for me depending on the colour (some last longer than others). Not washing your hair a lot works both for getting colour to last longer and keeping your hair healthy. I’ve also tried washing my hair in cold water instead of hot to preserve the colour but that was when I first dyed my hair an unnatural colour which was in the winter time (I live in Canada) and I kept getting sick from walking around my house in the winter with cold, wet hair because like I said I try not to blow dry my hair. But if that works for you and you’re not a pansy like me then go for it because I hear it works well and a lot of people recommend it!

I think that’s it, I hope this was helpful and I’m sorry it’s so long!
